How To Make Chinese Takeaway Style BBQ Sauce
To make this easy Chinese takeaway style BBQ sauce, the ingredients are simply simmered together slowly in a pot until combined. The simmering sauce is thickened with potato starch and the sauce is ready to serve with crispy wings, pork ribs and more.
Step 1: Simmer BBQ Sauce
In a large pot, wok or frying pan, add 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce, 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup, 1 tablespoon golden syrup, 2 tablespoons caster sugar, 1 tablespoon soft dark brown sugar, 150 millilitres pork stock, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, 1/2 teaspoon light soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon dark soy sauce, 1/4 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice, 1/4 teaspoon white pepper, 1/4 teaspoon MSG, 1/4 teaspoon smoked garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon beetroot powder, Pinch sea salt and 1 teaspoon rice wine. Stir well over a medium heat until the mix begins to boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes.
Step 2: Serve
Gradually add 1 tablespoon potato starch, mixed with 2 tablespoons water to the simmering sauce. Mix well and simmer for another minute until the sauce is bubbling thick. Transfer Chinese BBQ sauce to a serving bowl and serve with ribs, wings and more.
