This kebab shop style red chilli sauce recipe uses a classic base of tomato ketchup, mango chutney and mint sauce, with onion, tomato, red pepper and fruit cocktail added for freshness. Subtle depth is added with cumin powder and garam masala, with a touch more heat and colour from chilli powder and beetroot powder.

How To Make Kebab Shop Style Chilli Sauce

As well as being delicious, this kebab shop style red sauce is so easy to make. The ingredients are simply combined in a blender with water until the desired consistency is reached.

Step 1: Blend

In a blender, add 1 small onion, roughly chopped1 salad tomato, roughly chopped1/4 red pepper, roughly chopped200 millilitres tomato ketchup1 teaspoon mint sauce2 teaspoons mango chutneygenerous pinch cumin powdergenerous pinch garam masalagenerous pinch chilli powder1/4 teaspoon beetroot powder1/4 teaspoon sea salt & 125 millilitres water. Blend, check the consistency and add a touch more water if required and blend again.

Step 2: Chill

Transfer kebab shop style chilli sauce to a food safe container and set aside in the fridge for 1 hour before use. Serve with kebabs, pakora, pizza and more.

Milder Flavour: If you prefer a milder flavour, soak chopped onion in cold water for 10 minutes, rinse and drain before use. This works any time raw onion is called for in salad recipes.
