This delicious chocolate and hazelnut Nutella pizza proves that sweet can be just as good as savoury. A perfect dessert option when the pizza oven is fired up.
When you have a batch of pizza dough in the fridge, keep a sweet option in mind with this Nutella pizza. It’s a tasty treat that’s so easy to put together, and is just one more reason to keep the fridge well stocked with dough over the summer months and beyond.
Ingredients For Nutella Pizza
Chocolate pizza? Yes! This recipe is deliciously simple, combining pizza dough and Nutella with just a touch of icing sugar to finish. The combination of the warm freshly baked savoury crust and sweet chocolate and hazelnut topping is irresistable! You can, of course, use your preferred brand of chocolate spread, or experiment with biscoff spread and other flavours!
You can use your favourite pizza dough recipe (which I hope is this one), and you can find a full guide to making better pizza at home here. Adding a sweet option is a great way to do dessert on pizza night, or just another good reason to make a batch of dough.
How To Make Nutella Pizza
To make Nutella pizza, simply prepare pizza dough as normal, then pierce the middle of the base several times with a fork to ensure it doesn’t rise too much in the oven. Bake the dough without any topping until golden brown and cooked through, then set aside to cool for a couple of minutes. Then top the pizza bread generously with Nutella, dust with a touch of icing sugar and serve.
Step 1: Unfold The Dough
Heat the oven to 300C, or as high as your oven will go. Drop the dough into a bowl of bread flour and coat both sides. Unfold the dough by hand and arrange on a pizza peel or pizza screen. Use a fork to make dimples around the middle of the unfolded pizza dough to ensure it doesn’t rise too much in the oven.
Remove the pizza dough ball from the fridge 2-3 hours before you want to bake, so it’s ready when you need it. Preheat your oven before unfolding the pizza dough. Drop the pizza dough ball into a bowl of flour. The smooth top side of the dough ball will become the underside of the Nutella pizza. Coat both sides of the dough with a generous amount of flour and transfer to a work surface.
Press your fingers around the outside of the dough to form a crust, then press down into the middle. Flip the dough over and repeat. Lift the dough and carefully stretch to form a 12” crust. Lightly dust a pizza peel with a pinch of semolina and a pinch of bread flour. Transfer the prepared crust to the peel.
Step 2: Make The Nutella Pizza
In a pizza oven: Transfer the pizza to the pizza stone in your oven (don’t add the Nutella yet). Bake at 325C for 3-4 minutes and rotate the pizza occasionally until the crust is nicely charred and the dough is baked.
In a regular kitchen oven: Transfer the pizza to the pizza stone in your oven (don’t add the Nutella yet). Bake at 240C for 4-5 minutes and rotate the pizza once or twice until the crust is nicely charred and the dough is baked.
Remove the plain pizza from the oven and set aside to rest for 2-3 minutes.
Step 3: Top And Serve
Top the pizza generously with Nutella. Dust with a little icing sugar, slice and serve.
Tips For Nutella Pizza
Burst any large air bubbles that rise during the bake. Doing this ensures the pizza base is flat and make it easier to spread the Nutella after baking.
Optional Toppings For Nutella Pizza
Of course, bread and chocolate is delicious. But, add even more tasty toppings and the whole thing becomes a spectacular indulgence. Try adding the following toppings:
- Alternative spreads such as biscoff
- Marshmallows
- Sliced Banana
- Sliced Strawberries
- Chopped Hazelnuts
I hope you’ll try this topped Nutella pizza. If you do, let me know in the comments how it went!
